In the spring of 2005 I was in the russian town of Petrozavodsk, a town of 250 000 people, 200 kilometers from the border to Finland. During a month I documented the city and its youth. Russia is a land in puberty where the former Empire and its traditions are being mixed with currents from the West in the guise of reality shows, fashion and the pursuit of money and freedom.

The photos are poetic fragments from the city and its inhabitants a way of approaching the russian society on a smaller scale. The photos were exhibited at Västerbottens Museum in august 2005.
